Kousarnag controversy: A result of Omar's inept handling | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 17: The Jammu and Kashmir government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has mishandled the Kousarnag issue where few miscreants were allowed to install flags of a Masjid at a time when yatra was stopped by the district administration Kulgam. This step has caused anguish among people of other community who wanted to conduct the pilgrimage to the site but the permission was denied in view of the threat from separatists. To avoid any conflict after the threat from separatists, district administration Kulgam had cancelled its earlier order of permitting Kashmiri Pandits to visit Kousarnag and perform yatra but the administration failed to stop few miscreants from within valley to visit the site and install flag of a Masjid. "Though there is no hindrance in offering prayer at any place but the district administration of Kulgam should have treated the matter with utmost caution as one community was not allowed to perform their religious duty at the cost of environment, why were people of other community allowed to reach there," said Mukesh Sharma, a resident of Jammu. "This shows that the district administration as well as Omar Abdullah government is biased towards one community and are not letting other community who belong to the valley also to perform their religious duty," he added. Sharma said that Omar Abdullah government must not adopt double standard and should treat every citizen equally. This Kousarnag issue has become a point of contention between two communities and thus differences are increasing which otherwise should have decreased. There is a strong view among people of Jammu that those miscreants must be identified who installed flags in Kousarnag and tried to send wrong message to other community which could become a polarization issue ahead of the Assembly elections. "We demand action against those people. Though they can offer prayer at any place but must not install any thing at a place which is a dispute," said Congress party leader of Jammu, wishing anonymity. |
