Jammu region contributes 66% of power tariff given barely 40 % power share: Harsh

Jammu, Aug 17: NPP MLA and its Chairman Harsh Dev Singh today lambasted the state government for the unprecedented power cuts being affected in Jammu region during the ongoing summer season which had caused tremendous hardships and inconvenience to the common man. Strongly flaying the callous and insensitive attitude of the Power Dev. Deptt., he said that the people of Jammu region are made to suffer the worst nightmares due to scorching heat and soaring humidity with no respite from scheduled and unscheduled power cuts.
He said that the students are the worst sufferers particularly those preparing for the various examinations. He regretted that despite persistent appeals to the govt. to adhere to scheduled calendar on power supply and the repeated assurances of the govt. , no action has been taken by the latter thus adding to the woes and miseries of common man. He said that the Jammu region was the major sufferer with the govt. and its ministers being mute spectators in the face of a critical and crisis like situation.
He said that the ground situation was highly pathetic with power scenario having deteriorated further during the last few days.Lambasting the govt. for its highly parochial and biased approach, Singh pointed towards the most obnoxious aspects of power distribution within the state.
Citing figures, he said that the power consumption between Jammu and Kashmir regions is in the ration of 40:60 respectively but when it comes to revenue realization Jammu contributes more than 66% of power tariff with barely 33 % coming from Kashmir region.
