Congress questions Govt's silence over proposed Separatists-Pak envoy’ parleys | | | Javaid Naikoo
Srinagar, Aug 17 : Expressing anguish over the scheduled meet of Pakistan envoy with Separatist leaders of Jammu and Kashmir, congress leaders while alleging government of double standards said that government must not endorse such behaviour of Pakistan. Ahead of scheduled meet of Separatist leaders of Jammu and Kashmir in Delhi, Congress today while criticising Prime Minister, Narendra Modi asked why India is going ahead with foreign secretary level talks with Pakistan when the Pakistani envoy on the other hand had also invited Kashmir separatist leaders for talks in Delhi. Senior Congress leader,Manish Tiwari while terming the approach of government in the matters as 'lack of diplomacy within union government said that 'allowing Pakistan envoy, Abdul Basit to talk to the separatist leaders of Jammu and Kashmir right the meet of Indian high commissioner Sujatha Singh with her counterpart in Islamabad-Pakistan and termed the matter as lack of diplomacy within Bhartiya Janata party (BJP) camp. "You have the Pakistan high commissioner calling separatist leaders for talks, where has the diplomacy gone, Is this government going to endorse the behaviour of Pakistan "Manish Tiwari told national media He also said that the government should explain the nature of the meeting between Abdul Basit and the separatist leaders which is scheduled on Aug 18-19. On August 25 Indian high commissioner Sujatha Singh will be in Pakistan for talks with her counterpart Aizaz Ahmad and ahead of her visit, separatist leaders of Kashmir which include chairman of his faction (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Syed Geelani chairman of (G) have been invited by Basit for a meeting in New Delhi lashing hard on union government, another senior congress leader and Former external affairs Minister Salman Khurshid accused the government of double standards and said that the decision to hold foreign secretary level talks was not in sync with the Bharatiya Janata Party's stated opposition to talks with Pakistan while the BJP was in the opposition and added that "BJP had been constantly saying that terror and talks cannot go hand in hand is that all forgotten," Salman Khurshid added. |
