| Internal fued in NC over North Kashmir candidates | | | Syed Tahir Bukhari
BARAMULLA, Aug 17: A day after ruling National Conference declared the 3rd list of its party candidates for the upcoming state elections; internal feud has erupted with activists expressing resentment over nomination of candidates for north Kashmir's Sangrama and Baramulla.
Early times have learnt from reliable sources that after NC released its list of the party candidates wherein Ghulam Hassan Rahi was given Baramulla and party nominated Khowaja Mohammad Yaqoob from Sangrama Constituency
"Hours after the names of the party candidates went public resentment in open was expressed by the NC workers and activists with several local NC leaders who were in queue to get the ticket- termed the nomination of duo 'against the local aspirations' sources said. However sources maintained that the leaders who were dropped from the 3rd list immediately held the series of meetings with their respective workers with the demands from their cadre being raised high that either they must join other political camp or contest as independent candidates from various parts of North Kashmir. In Baramulla area, apart from Ghulam Hassan Rahi, names of Advocate Shahid Ali and Tariq Kakroo were seriously being considered. In Sangrama area, as Khwaja Mohammad Yaqoob was given the NC ticket, Abdul Rashid Dar, Yaqoob Malik, Dr Ghulam Qadir and former MLA Ghulam Mohi-ud-din were expected to get the mandate from North Kashmir's Sangrama assembly segment. While resenting the party's announcement, the ones dropped in the list termed the move unfortunate- alleging that NC preferred 'Pick and Choose' while as the services and the ground of the deserving ones was 'undermined'. A worker from NC Party wished not to be named said that, the rivalry within the Baramulla segment is less as compared to that of the Sangrama area, the list could trigger the war within the parties with several local leaders might join hands with other groups, hence paving way to the division of the committed vote share during the upcoming state elections. The workers at Sangrama assembly segment stated that the leader nominated from the area has less rapport at the ground level activists of the party- his nomination could prove 'disastrous' for the national conference in upcoming assembly elections. The workers while substantiating their claims stated that the assembly segment is divided into upper and lower reaches and while the PDP and Congress are fielding the candidates hailing from the upper reaches. According to sources that NC should have nominated the leader for the polls hailing from the lower reach of the area and the same could have benefited the party at large during the tough fight ahead. It is important to mention here that north Kashmir is proving a tougher route for state's mainstream camp having containing more risks than rewards ahead sources said. |
