Election preparedness: 21 DEOs convey thumbs up to CEO

Kishtwar, Oct 15: In response to the letter of the Chief Electoral Officer to all District Election Officers to convey their election preparedness in view of the recent floods in the state, the DEO Kishtwar has expressed his consent for holding elections, terming situation in two assembly constituencies viz 51-Kishtwar and 52- Inderwal as conducive.
As per the details available with "Early Times", District Election Officer (Deputy Commissioner) Kishtwar in his reply stated that Tehsils
like Marwah, Warwan and Dachhan remain cut off from the rest of the state in the month of December due to heavy snowfall. DEO Kishtwar in his reply stated that in case the elections were conducted as per schedule, same may be held here in the 1st phase. He further stated that due to inaccessibility and farflung snow bound areas of Marwah, Warwan, Dachhan, Machail tehsils massive airlifting exercise in these areas needs to be carried out in time bound manner.
As per the report of DEO Kishtwar, out of 156, 155 villages of Kishtwar District got affected due to recent floods and heavy rains in which 341 houses were completely damaged while 1355 houses were partially damaged. The report stated that 250 voters were displaced due to floods and are living in alternative accommodation from where they can go and cast their votes without any hindrance, beside added that the temporary restoration of damaged roads, Bridges and culverts has been completed and made functional for smooth transportation of polling staff. DEO in his report to CEO has showed concern over status of telecommunication and Internet in the District and termed the same as not up to mark as it mostly remains cut off.
The DEO stated that all the polling stations earmarked for assembly elections 2014 are intact, except one polling station namely HS Bisanwali which too have relocated at an alternative accommodation at same location.
Meanwhile the sources informed the "Early times" that out of 22 Districts, only DEO Badgam showed his unwillingness in conducting the elections on time and in his report has stated that the situation is not conducive for conducting election under present circumstances.
The CEO had asked the Deputy Commissioners to provide the details regarding damages to roads, bridges, culverts which will effect movement of polling parties to be dispatched for each Assembly Constituency, date of restoration of connectivity, date of individuals/families going to return to their homes/villages, total number of polling stations damaged in floods required to be shifted/re-located, status of Telecommunication, Internet connectivity in the District and any issue of concern for the District.
