Omar plays down sedition, says one ISIS flag isn't a threat | Act before it is too late | | Neha
JAMMU, Oct 15: A few months ago, Lashkar operatives waved the Lashkar flags in a rally held in Srinagar city and the rally was addressed by Pakistani agent Syed Ali Shah Geelani. The anti-India act had evoked criticism from many responsible circles, but the NC-Congress coalition government, as was expected, ignored the deplorable episode. There is nothing in the media which could even remotely suggest that the Omar Abdullah government did act against those anti-nationals. On the other hand, there is much in the media which suggests that the Omar Abdullah government remained extremely soft towards the anti-nationals. It was no wonder then that the extremists and anti-nationals exploited the government's soft approach to their advantage and created serious troubles for the nation in the Valley. The rise of stone throwers in Kashmir in the summer of 2010 and the resultant anti-India disturbances there can be directly attributed to the soft approach of the state government towards the cult of secessionism and terrorism. On October 6, at least two Kashmiri youth waved the flags of the dreaded ISIS in the heart of Srinagar city after the Eid prayers. Reports say that the anti-India and despicable incident reportedly took place soon after APHC-M chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq addressed a religious congregation. These masked Kashmiri youth not only raised the ISIS flags under the very nose of the security forces but also stoned them. It was a dangerous event and it suggested that the brute ISIS be-headers and killers of Shiite Muslims, Christians and even Sunnis in Iraq and Syria were making inroads in the Kashmir Valley. It was expected that the Omar Abdullah government would finally act against these butchers and stem the rot or nip the evil in the bud, but it was not to be. On the contrary, he played down the sedition and said that one ISIS flag isn't a threat. "The foolish Kashmiri youth waved the ISIS flags. This doesn't mean that the ISIS of Baghdadi has set up his cell in the Valley. This was an isolated incident. Sections of electronic media are only making a mountain out of a molehill and this is not responsible journalism," he said on Tuesday in Delhi while responding to the media queries about the incident. "No groups of the ISIS are present (in J&K). Some foolish youths used the flags but that was it. Unfortunately some channels have played up this issue unnecessarily but we have already taken action against the guilty". What action? He didn't reveal. That a person who holds the highest executive office in the state makes such an irresponsible statement in such a casual manner does not augur well for the future of the state in general and the restive Kashmir Valley in particular. It is time for the Government of India to intervene without losing a single moment, as the government of Omar Abdullah just cannot be depended upon. It has to act before it is too late. In the meantime, JKNPP chief pattern Bhim Singh has come out with a very strong statement against the state government and reiterated his demand that the Omar Abdullah government needed to be dismissed forth with. But this is not enough. What is required is a definite action on the ground to avert the impending disaster and the first requirement is cleanse the Valley of all those who pose a threat to the national unity. |
