Clean hand, save lives! | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 15: On the world Hand Washing Day, an advertisement depicting the state government's logo and Omar Abdullah's photo appeared in some local dailies. The advertisement stresses need for cleanliness. Nobody can contest that but the words used to convey the message can be interpreted differently. Even it has political connotations. "Clean hand, save lives." Apparently there seems nothing wrong with the message. `Clean hand' in political terminology denotes an honest person who does not take bribe. Such a person definitely can save lives as he protects, upholds and enforces the genuine rights of the people. But under Omar's regime, the state won the dubious distinction of being the most corrupt state in India. Omar vowed to fight corruption, or in plain words expressed determination to `clean hands' in his administration immediately after taking over as the Chief Minister of the state six years ago. . But after a few days, he admitted his helplessness and in the process his own hands got stained. The slogan changed. The administration echoed with Jai Brashtachar slogans. The message in aforementioned advertisement is catchy. It will attract attention but the World Hand Washing day will go in vain! Omar should not have allowed his photo and the state logo to be used in the advertisement. |
