Revenue officials stage protest | Cops beat Patwari | | Srinagar, Nov 18: Revenue officials today staged a protest after police men allegedly beat a Patwari inside Nigeen Police station in Srinagar city. The protesting patwari's said that in a bid to distribute cheques smoothly and without any disturbance among flood victims, they had opened up a counter inside Police Station Nigeen. They said that hundreds of people of adjoining Dal area had arrived in police station to collect their cheques. "Police failed to control the crowd and blamed Nandpora Patwari Saleem Altaf for mess. Two cops violated the law and thrashed him mercilessly," a protesting Patwari Abdul Hamid said.Soon after the incident, scores of Patwari's gathered at their Tehsil headquarter located in Hazratbal and demanded immediate action against the 'erring' cops. They threatened to go for an indefinite strike in case action against the 'erring' cops is delayed.Senior Vice President Patwar Association Muhammad SajadSidiq said that they condemn the police action and demand actions against the 'guilty' cops.Station House Officer Nigeen Police Station said that the said Patwari had an heated argument with a police constable over some petty issue and the matter later on was sorted out amicably. |
