Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 18: Much before the state goes to polls on November 25, National Conference (NC) suffered a major jolt with its lone candidate getting just 4 votes on the elections for Jammu University Research Scholars Executive Association (JURSEA).
If the University scholars are to be believed, NC had fielded Ravinder Singh alias Robin for being elected as President of JURSEA. They added that Robin has recently joined National Conference (NC) and is expecting to be nominated as President of the National Conference Students Union (NCSU) for Jammu University (JU). Robin joined the fray just to prove his mettle before the leadership of NC especially Provincial President Devinder Singh Rana.
University sources said that Robin had anticipated support from the ex-NC student leaders of Jammu University. They did canvass for him but failed to convince scholars to support Robin who is not only new to the University politics but has not been able to win trust of scholars and students who are closer to National Conference Students Union (NCSU). It is because of this reason that Robin got just 4 votes of the total polled 32 votes.
According to University scholars, Robin got just 4 votes despite NC youth leadership making all possible efforts to get their candidate elected as President of JURSEA. They said that defeat of Robin is also indicative of lack of wisdom on the part of NC leadership in choosing people for various important assignments. Scholars accepted that this is sign of things to come and NC should get prepared for much bigger shocks and embarrassments.
Shockingly, NC is heading the Government and claiming to come back to power yet authorities in the university are dancing to the tunes of BJP and its affiliate organisations. "Humiliation of NC is complete. When you have acting VC R.D. Sharma allegedly sitting outside the office of Dean Students Welfare (DSW) to monitor elections of JURSEA and then, promising to allow casting of a vote of scholar from music faculty, following this by forgetting the promise and refusing to get the vote casted to ensure that ABVP at-least gets a consolation win, you can well understand intent. They are out to appease new leadership of BJP," said a scholar.
He added that none anticipated rout of ABVP and neither anyone wanted candidate affiliated with NC to win. "We have seen people changing colours like chameleon. They are making all efforts to appease BJP leadership. Hence, none even bothered about Robin being in contest despite youth leadership of National Conference (NC) under the patronage of Provincial President Devinder Singh Rana making all efforts to ensure his victory.
On being asked, a senior NC leader said "We know that there is anti-incumbency but University elections are entirely different ballgame. We never projected Robin as our candidate. He has joined NC and fought the elections on his own. We do not know much about this. The two things should not be mixed." However, he did accept that much is required to be done to bring NC back to life across Jammu and Kashmir.
