MENDHAR, Nov 18: These elections are definitely not good for NC as problems for it show no signs of receding. While it is still struggling to come out of the shock given to it by its stalwarts who have quit the party to join PDP, the discovery of PHE pipes, which had been used as flagpoles by its cadres in the town here, has further compounded its problems. Over a hundred NC flags were today found flying at the top of government pipes of PHE department in the town here. After some locals lodged complaints with returning officer and SDM, Mendhar, Romesh Kumar, he asked the election staff to verify the complaints, according to official sources. Soon thereafter, the MCC (Model Code of Conduct) staff, camping in the town, visited the rooftops of several houses in Mendhar town, and videographed the flagpoles with NC flags, the sources added. The video was also shown to the returning officer and other poll employees. When it was found that the flagpoles were actually PHE pipes, the returning officer took a strong notice of it and issued a notice to AEE, PHE sub-division, Mendhar, Showkat Ahmad, sources said. The AEE was asked to explain as to how NC workers had laid hands on the government drinking water pipes. Action was likely to be taken against the official/officials who had distributed these pipes to NC cadres, the sources added. There was strong resentment among non-NC cadres in Mendhar town against the use of government pipes as flagpoles by NC cadres. |
