Kathua, Feb.16: Term it as indifference or downright inefficiency on part of DIET Basohli, that it could not avail power connection to students who came up to participate in Science Exhibition with highly innovative models which needed power to operate. The exhibition was organized by DIET Basohli under RMSA scheme at Government Girls' Higher secondary School Kathua. Students had spent a lot from their pockets to excel in science exhibition and exhibit several innovative ideas , but DIET Basohli could not provide power supply in one day exhibition where several teams could not display their models and returned disappointed. Some students studying in High and Middle schools were seen in tears as they failed to exhibit their models which they had prepared with lot of hard work. It is pertinent to mention here that DIETs are being allocated handsome funds for organizing such exhibitions but they have failed to provide even basic amenities for participating students, discouraging them to the core. According to a relevant source, DIET Basohli withdrew 1 lac for the exhibition but not only 50 percent of it was spent in organizing one day event. Ironically, Thuro Ram, CEO Kathua, said the exhibition was being organized under RMSA scheme to explore innovative ideas and scientific knowledge of Young scientists. Jasbir Kumar, a participating student burst out before media when jury panel rejected his model. "My team could not sleep for last three nights for preparing this model about remedial measures in case of natural disaster but jury panel refused to inspect the same" said Kumar blaming the organizers for not availing him a power connection.
No other alternative source of electricity was provided to display dozens of models based on the use of electricity. Students sought inquiry against the organizers and jury panel for their indifference and apathetical attitude.
