Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 16: In utter disregard to the directive of the Rajbhawan passed two weeks ago, wherein it had stressed strict adherence of SRO -164 that restrains government officers/officials from being elected to the sports associations, neither any Government officer has announced his resignation, not sought permission to hold positions in sports associations.
Interestingly, in open defiance of the directive of the Governor, DC Jammu, Ajit Kumar Sahu addressed a press conference as the president of Archery Association of J&K the previous day announcing organization of an invitational Archery Championship at Jammu.
Governor N N Vohra taking cognizance of media reports regarding violation of SRO-164 had directed the General Administration Department (GAD) to ensure its strict compliance on February 5, 2015. The GAD in turn had issued a circular asking all government officers/officials to seek permission from the government if they sought to be in sports bodies of the state. The GAD also asked such officers to route their representations seeking permission through the secretary J&K State Sports council, but astoundingly, almost two weeks since the directive of the Governor and subsequent circular of the GAD, none of the Government servants has announced his resignation or sought permission.
"We have not received any representation from any government official till today" confirmed the Administrative Officer of the J&K State Sports Council Balbir Singh, making it clear that no government officer had cared to seek permission from the government in this regard.
As already reported by ET, many senior officers of Police and civil administration have been office bearers in the sports associations of the state without seeking mandatory permission from the government. Prominent among those include Financial Commissioner, Planning, BR Sharma, (Mountaineering Association), ADGP Dilbagh Singh (J&K Rifle Association and Distt Badminton Association), ADGP SM Sahai, (Hockey Association), Commissioner Secretary, Science and Technology Parvaiz Malik (J&K Rugby Association), Commissioner JMC Kiran Wattal, (Gymnastics Association), IGP JP Singh, (Fistball association), ADGP Naveen Aggarwal, (Speed Ball Association), Excise Inspector Ravinder Singh (Athletics Association), SP Dushyant Sharma, (Wrestling Association), Inspector Kuldeep Handu (Wushu Association), Conservator of forests Jameel Thakur. (J&K Football Association), IGP HK Lohia, (Wushu Association), Ravinder Singh (KAS) Cycling Association, Farooq Shah, (Winter Games Association), Dy SP Sudershan Mehta (Cricket Association) and several others.
