Health authoritis sleep over Swine Flu Threat: DAK | | | Javaid Naikoo

Srinagar, Feb 16: The Doctors' Association Kashmir (DAK) has accused the authorities of sleeping over the swine flu hreat. DAK president, Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan while warning of serious consequences said, "It is the responsibility of health officials to supply information to the public instead of covering up their inability." He said there was no planning and coordination for implementation of procedures that would combat any eventuality of H1N1 outbreak. Some health officials in order to cover up their incompetence hide facts of swine flu outbreak from public thus risking precious human lives which is outrageous and unacceptable," said he. He also said that H1N1 virus is already in our community and due to possible change in virus, outbreak is imminent as it makes no sense to check at entry points once the virus is already in community by whichwe are given to understand that expert opinion is not taken. According to sources higher ups in health department not agreeing with terms of DAK headed by Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan. They said that proposals send by DAK in connection with equipping two Premier Hospitals, SMHS and SKIMS with ultra modern infrastructure and making possible availability of all important Medicine to treat Swine flu are not taken seriously by higher ups in health administration due to prevailing dispute and such an divided attitude is only severely risking lives of common masses having no other options to opt for treatment of Swine flu disease in Jammu and Kashmir. Pertinently on February 13,2015,DAK while warning of serious consequences of Swine flu spread in Kashmir said that two premier hospitals in Kashmir are not well equipped to tackle the increasing number of swine flu cases due to lack of infrastructure and unavailability of life saving medicine. DAK despite warning that two designated hospitals for treating swine flu (H1N1) disease in Kashmir division lack much needed negative pressure isolation wards and logistics and added that "Tamiflu (Oseltamivir), the only life saving drug for treatment and prophylaxis of H1N1 is not available in the hospitals of Kashmir, However according to sources no concrete measures have been taken yet byHigher ups in Health administration to make shaking health system viable to treat Swine Flu threat by making possible supply of required all important medicine and infrastructure for such patients in two premier Hospitals of Kashmir.
