Not miscarriage, only minor hiccups hit BJP-PDP talks 2/16/2015 11:13:39 PM Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 16: Senior BJP and PDP leaders have made clear that the talks for government formation had not suffered `miscarriage' as widely believed. They said there were minor hiccups only which would be overcome shortly. As far as the lifting of the AFSPA is concerned the BJP has informed the PDP that it was prepared to concede its demand provided there was approval from the Ministry of Defence. Senior leaders of the two parties have stated that even for lifting of the AFSPA from areas which have not experienced any major militancy related incidents there was need for consent from the Army. A senior BJP leader said that as face saving the central Government may consider the demand for lifting of the AFSPA from three to five districts in the state. About Article 370,which grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir, the central Government is likely to keep the issue under the carpet and there would be no mention on the date or time for abrogating this Act. The BJP has informed the PDP leadership that Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, had already decided to reopen the channels of dialogue with Islamabad. He did so when he rang up Nawaz Sharif for conveying his good wishes for the Pakistani team. Not only this, Modi has sent the Foreign Secretary S. Jai Shankar to Pakistan for reviving the bilateral dialogue process. New Delhi has conveyed to Mufti that it is up to Islamabad to create a conducive atmosphere for renewing sustained dialogue. Regarding the grant of citizenship right to the West Pakistan refugees the BJP leadership has suggested to tPDP to treat the issue on humanitarian basis and not on the basis of constitution grounds. A senior PDP leader said that the West Pakistan refugee issue is the only unsettled matter between the two. He said that the CommonMinimum Programme, which is to be finalized in consultation with the BJP will be made public a day or two before the formation of the Government.He said if the two parties were not able to form the Government by February 22 it may be delayed simply by a week or but the BJP-PDP Government is to be sworn in shortly.   Share This News with Your Friends on Social Network     Comment on this Story
