Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Jan 29: Police have arrested three persons in connection with a theft that took place in the Narwara area of downtown Srinagar some days back. Some of the golden ornaments have also been recovered from the three thieves. On January 23, Showkat Ahmad Budoo, a resident of Bangarteng-Nawara, Eidgah reported in Police Station Safa Kadal that a theft has taken place in his house. The complainant said that thieves decamped with a cash amount of Rs. 1, 65,000 and gold ornaments worth six lakh rupees. Acting on the complaint a party of police station Safa Kadal headed by Sub-Inspector Mohammad Yasin carried out raids at many places in order to nab the thieves. The police registered a First Information Report (FIR) number 10/2016 under sections 454, 380 and 120-B and started investigations. The investigating police team apprehended the main person responsible for the theft from the Firdous Colony, Eidgah. The kingpin has been identified as Tanveer Ahmad Sofi resident of Khaipora-Tangmarg, Baramulla at present Firdous Colony, Eidgah. In addition to Tanveer two more persons were arrested for carrying out the theft at the house of Showkat. They were identified as Arshid Ahmad Khan and Jan Mohammad Dar. While Arshid is a resident of Firdous Colony, Eidgah, Jan is a resident of Malik Sahib Safa Kadal. The stolen ornaments were recovered from the house of Jan. Jan runs a shop in the name of Bashir Auto Spare Parts at Darish Kadal, Safa Kadal. A police official said that gold ornaments worth Rs. 3, 50,000 have been recovered so far. He said efforts are on to recover the remaining gold ornaments and the cash amount. The official claimed that the case was cracked within five days adding that further investigations are going on in the matter. |
