Avinash Azad Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 29: A senior BJP leader has used his "influence" to buy a plot at Sainik Colony here, exclusively meant for defence personnel. The Sainik Cooperative House Building Society (SCHBS) custodian of the colony is believed to have facilitated the deal for the politician in order to appease him and to get his ashirwad. According to documents available with Early Times, the BJP leader registered a piece of land under his name in Sector-B of the Sainik Colony. "Whereas the party of the second part has decided to transfer his plot no. 115 in sector B to the party third, in terms of transfer of land and membership to the BJP leader (name withheld). Whereas the managing committee of the party of the first part, has granted permission for the transfer of all rights and interests of the party of the second part i.e. Deepak Sharma, son of Subash Chander Sharma in favour of the third party (the BJP leader)," reads a copy of the lease deed dated January 6, 2016. However, the BJP leader is not eligible for securing property in the Sainik Colony, which exclusively meant for defence personnel. "A beneficiary should be a permanent resident of J&K state and certified as such the competent civil authority and served or is still serving in the Forces (Army, Navy or Air Force) or a widow/widower of an in-service or ex-serviceman members can be member of the society and can avail land with in jurisdiction of the SCHBS," the amended bye-laws state. In the transfer deed neither the first party nor the second has served or is serving in defence service. "There is a scam of several hundred crore in the society. Byelaws have been violated time and again, and membership has been granted to a large number of non-defense personnel. It's all happening under the political patronage," informed sources told Early Times. "The office bearers of the SCHBS are hand in glove with property dealers and land mafia," said the sources, adding that plot was allotted to the senior BJP leader to get his support. Notably, the BJP, swept the 2014 parliamentary and assembly elections in Jammu region on the promise of good governance and eradicating corruption. But since the day party came into power by forging an alliance with the PDP in March last year, its members are often in news for wrong reasons. Instead of fighting the menace of corruption, the party is seen soft on tainted people if not entertaining or encouraging them. This apparent unwillingness of the BJP to act against its tainted leaders has angered its supporters. "We voted for the BJP with a hope that it will end corruption in the state. But it's becoming abundantly clear by the day that the BJP is no better than National Conference or Congress when it comes to corruption," Chunni Lal, a businessman from Gandhinagar, told Early Times. "In fact, leaders and workers of the BJP are setting new records in corruption. Is this what we had voted for?" asked Lal. |
