Accepting PDP's demands would be to further harm Jammu, nation: Hari Om
1/29/2016 11:30:24 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 29: Describing the PDP's pre-conditions for the government formation with BJP as utterly unacceptable and against the interests of people of Jammu and the Indian nation as a whole, Prof Hari Om on Friday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reject outright all the pre-condition and ask party president Amit Shah to direct the local leadership of the party to behave in a responsible manner.
"Amit Shah should direct the former BJP ministers to vacate the official residences like the family of late Mufti Sayeed did on their own two day ago to set a good example, said Prof Hari Om, adding that "it was time for the BJP to retrospect and find where the party went wrong in the sensitive J&K State and what made the BJP unpopular in its own constituency in such a short span of ten months". The PDP's reported demands that Mehbooba Mufti as Chief Minister should be given a freehand in running the state government and also be made part of the "trilateral" talks between India, Pakistan and Kashmiri separatists are highly atrocious, said Prof Hari Om. He added that these demands, if accepted, will not only further jeopardize the general political and economic rights and interests of the already rather neglected people of Jammu province but would also undo all that the nation did in J&K during all these years of independence to integrate it politically, constitutionally and financially into India.
"Accepting these demands would be suicidal and against the interests of the people of Jammu province and the very idea of India," he said. Prof Hari Om also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to see through the game plan of the PDP and reject pre-conditions like return of the centre-owned power projects in the state to the state government and vacation of pieces of land in different parts of the state which the Army has been using for training and defence purposes. "Accepting these demands would mean the negation of the national policy on power projects and weakening of the war machine in the separatist and terrorist-infested J&K," he said, adding that "the need of the time is to strengthen the war machine and not weaken it considering the fact that terrorism is integral part of Pakistan's state policy that is being used ruthlessly to promote its geo-political and sectarian interests in the region at the cost of India". Prof Hari Om also batted for the continuation of Governor's and urged the Prime Minister to use the period to end alienation in Jammu province and Ladakh region. "The people of Jammu and Ladakh would appreciate him and forgive the BJP if the Central Government established All-India Institute of Medical Sciences, granted the status of Union Territory to Ladakh and removed all regional imbalances," he said, and added that the problem in Kashmir is fundamentally communal that needed to be dealt with as such. "It is Jammu and Ladakh which have been completely alienated both from New Delhi and Kashmir. They needed to be conciliated without losing a moment. They are the country's backbone in the state. The problem in Kashmir is not political; it's fundamentally communal. The Kashmiri leadership hates India and Indian Constitutional framework. Their demands range from merger with Pakistan to greater autonomy to self-rule and none of these demands could be considered, as acceptance of any of these demands would eventually lead to another communal partition of India - an eventuality that has to be averted at any cost in order to defend the unity and territorial integrity of India and promote and preserve the Indian liberal ethos. India needs to adopt a policy that eliminated the scourge of terrorism in Punjab in the late 1980s," said Prof Hari Om.
