After 12 yrs of probe, trial, stabber gets 2 yrs imprisonment | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 29 : 2nd Additional Sessions Judge M K Sharma today awarded two years imprisonment to a stabber after 12 years of investigation and trial. According to the police case, Shashi Kumar alias Shashan S/o Munshi Ram of Bandwal Colony, Akhnoor, went to the house of Krishna Devi, who lives in the same colony, at about 1 am on September 24 and knocked at the door which was locked from inside. Hearing the knock, Krishna went to open the door. She told police that soon after she opened the door, Shashi attacked her with a sharp-edged weapon (khokhri). Hearing her cries, her daughters - Sushma Rani and Sonia Devi - woke up and ran to the rescue of their mother but he attacked them too, causing them serious injuries. When the incident took place, the woman's husband was in Jammu in connection with his work. The judge said since the convict faced trial for more than 10 years, it can be termed as a protracted trial. The convict did not misuse the concession of bail during this period. He, otherwise, has not been booked in any other criminal case, which would reflect his antecedents adversely. In this background, he is sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for one year and a fine of Rs 2,000 for the commission of offence under section 326 of RPC, imprisonment for one month and a fine of Rs 500 for the commission of offence under section 452 of RPC and imprisonment for one year and a fine of Rs 2,000 for the commission of offence under section 4/25 of Arms Act.
