Bijay Charak Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 30: Lack of playgrounds in most of the private schools has exploded the tall claims of the government of engaging students in physical activities. The situation, it has been learnt, is alarming in old city, Talab Tillo, Janipur, Gandhi Nagar, Satwari etc where the schools are run in small areas also violates the affiliation rules of Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE). "As per BOSE governing rules of affiliation every Government, Private School shall be required to have playground facilities for all children on its rolls to undertake different curricular and co-curricular (sports) activities", he said, adding that under the SRO123 of the J&K School Education Act of 2002, the private schools seeking affiliation/recognition/permission should have required School to have one room for indoor games with area not less than 150 sq m but astoundingly in Jammu district most of the government, Private schools have no playground as well as indoor game facilities. They further said that department concerned is not even bothered to prepare the list of private educational institutions which lack playground facilities then what to talk of taking strict action against these erring schools. A lot of stress is being laid by the authorities on introducing physical education subject in government as well as private schools, but what is the benefit if physical activities are not taking place due to lack of playgrounds. Chief Education Officer (CEO), Jammu accepted and said that school runs in posh area of city lacked of play ground facilities and are running in small building. When asked about to take action against erring schools, he said he had already taken the matter with higher authority. |
