Police initiates 'probe' in Jaglanoo firing by VDCs

Rajouri, Jan 30: Rajouri Police has started investigation in the incident in which a Village Defence Committee (VDC) member opened one fine in village Jaglanoo after alleged noticing of suspicious movement in the village.
According to sources, Station House Officer (SHO) Kandi under whose jurisdiction of Village Jaglanoo falls has directed the VDC members to deposit their VDC weapons at police station along with ammunition issued to them so that it can be established who had opened the fire.
Sources said, "A VDC member under the alleged influence of liquor had opened fire from his .303 VDC gun at about midnight which resulted in panic in the village which once was dominated by anti national elements and many people were killed by insurgency incidents.
A police officer said that during questioning of the VDC members today, every member was just blaming the other for the incident. "Only one round has been fired by the VDC member but to end the blame game and to reach to the guilty police has decided to count the ammunition of every VDC member to make it clear who had fired the round" said SHO, Kandi police station. He said that two VDC members namely Mohd Shakeel and Mohd Bashir have surrendered their VDC weapons along with ammunition while others have been asked to surrender their weapons along with ammunition on or before January 31. "Whether the VDC member fired after suspicious movement or under the influence of wine is a matter of investigation and further action would be decided only after counting of the ammunition and reason behind opening of fire" said a police officer.
