Father-son among five persons killed in Uri Road tragedy
Locals alleged roads never were covered under PMGSY scheme for upliftment

BARAMULLA (Uri), May 12: Five persons, including a father and son were killed on Thursday morning in a tragic road accident in Uri area of Baramulla District in north Kashmir. The Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti too expressed grief over the death of five persons.
According to police sources, a Maruti car bearing registration no JK05B-5422 with five people on boards met with accident and rolled into a 200-ft deep gorge today morning resulting death of all passengers including father-son who were on the way from Silikote village to Rustam post near Nambla to attend the public darbar
The deceased have been identified as Ghulam Hassan Chalkoo (Sarpanch) 55, S/O Abdul Gafar, Mohammad Imran Chalkoo 25, S/ Ghulam Hassan Chalkoo, Mushtaq Ahmad Awan 22, S/O Fareed Ahmad Awan, Imtiyaz Ahmad Chalkoo 34, S/O Saif-ud Din, Mohammad Asif Chalkoo 22 S/O Abdul Hamid Chalkoo R/O Silikote Uri.
Eyewitness said, "Village headman (Sarpanch) along with his son and others were travelling in a Maruti car that skidded off the road in Sagiwar near Hajipeer Nullah in Silikote village and four persons died on spot, while as other injured succumbed to his grievous injuries on way to hospital.
Imtiyaz Ahmad and Mohammad Asif were working as government teachers in the education department, said sources.
Local residents of Silikote said that due to negligence of the authorities, the road which leads to their village was never repaired after the rains/inclement weather in the recent past.
"The road from Silikote to Uri was never covered under PMGSY scheme, government has failed to repair the same with the result the people are facing many hardships on daily basis, rued locals.
Confirming the road tragedy Station House Officer (SHO) Uri Ghulam Mohammad Rather said, "Five residents of Silikote village of Uri Tehsil died today morning in a tragic road accident..
He said the accident took place when driver reportedly failed to negotiate a sharp curve, and lost control over the vehicle resulting it to skid off from road and plunging into a nullah near Hajipeer in Silikote area. "Police have registered a case vide FIR no 30/2016 and investigations have been taken up, said SHO.
He said, "The passengers were on the way to attend the Army Public Darbar in Rustam post (Nambla) in which various officials like SDPO, Thesildar, SDM, and others were about to attend it and the deceased persons too.
Meanwhile Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, Thursday expressed grief over the death of five persons in a tragic car accident at Uri, in Baramulla district.
In her condolence message, the Chief Minister conveyed her heart-felt sympathies to the bereaved family members in their hour of grief and prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls.
