Cloudburst claims three lives in Batote, search operation on
CEO Ramban places seven teachers under suspension

RAMBAN, May 12: Three children were killed on spot after a cloudburst triggered flash floods in Chakwa nullah near Batote area of district Ramban district this afternoon. Rescue cum search teams have fished out two bodies while the search to trace the third is on till last report came in. Meanwhile Chief Education Officer (CEO) concerned has placed seven teachers under suspension for dereliction of their duties.
Police sources said that three children were killed after floods in Chakwa nullah two kilometers from Batote area of the district.
"The deceased have been identified as Rakesh Kumar (14) s/o Satish Kumar of Ladhwal, Shiwali Devi (5) d/o Hans Raj of Bagu Nallah and Payal Devi (14) d/o Raj Kumar of Thopal- Batote district Ramban.
Police sources said that team of police party alongwith SDRF, Army, CRPF and civilians immediately launched rescue operation and recovered the bodies of Rakesh and Shivali whereas the body of Payal Devi yet is untraced till last report came in.
"After the heavy rainfall the National Highway blocked owing landslides at different part of National Highway besides Batote-Doda is also closed at various places, they added.
Sources said the incident took place at around 4.00pm after the area was lashed with heavy rains at around 3.20 this afternoon. "Flash floods resulted in local rivulet claimed lives of three children who were crossing the stream and were washed away in strong currents of water," they added.
Sources said that that Kud under jurisdiction of Udhampur district also witness slush slides after heavy rains which affected the normal traffic on National Highway NH-1A while Doda-Kishtwar Road also witnessed land and mud slides at four major landslide prone areas.
Meanwhile Chief Education Officer (CEO) Ramban taking cognizance of reports that the teachers of MS Lidhwal Zone Batote let off the students at 4.PM not keeping in mind the safety of the students as it was raining heavily, today ordered suspension of seven teachers. Whereas, due to said irresponsible nature of duty of the teachers led to causality of students of the said school and constituted a team comprising three members Bal Ji Thaploo (Dy CEO Ramban), Mohd Amin Daing (ZEO Batote) and Abdul Rashid.
CEO Ramban has ordered that till pending enquiry the staff of the school namely Jas beer Kour, Deepak Kumar, Sanlosh Koul, Shugufta Ara, Davider Chand, Davindcr Chand and Geeta Devi are placed under suspension with immediate effect
"Meanwhile Ajay Kumar PET working in the same institution is recommended for suspension, the order said, adding, "District Youth Services and Sports Officer Ramban is requested to place the said PET under suspension with immediate effect for dereliction of duty."
"ZEO Batote has been directed to depute CRPs/ZRPs to monitor the school, the official order stated.
