Early Times Report jammu, May 12: While Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is trying her best to ensure timely completion of ongoing developmental works in Jammu and Kashmir, some BJP ministers are creating obstacles in execution of major projects for unknown reasons. The latest example is multi-crore Chenani-Nashri tunnel project of National Highway Authority of India, which has been stalled on Nashri end when the earth cutting work was in progress for construction of approach road. According to the sources, the Department of Forest and Environment has seized the excavator machines of the construction company for alleged violation of environment norms. Despite clarification of the construction agency to the Department of Forest and Environment, the seized machines have not been released and thus the work on this approach road is lying stalled for the last four days, sources added. While elaborating, sources said the machines were seized on the instruction of a senior BJP Minister who alleged that the construction company was dumping muck in the nallahs near Nashri. Even as the National Highway Authority of India as well as the private construction company sought to clarify the Government that the much was being pressed adequately as per norms, the Department officers refused to listen, apparently on the instructions of the minister concerned, who wants the construction company to bend before him, sources said. Though the issue was not so big, sources said that the ego of minister and his unknown intentions were making the things complicated with the result that work on much awaited Chenani-Nashri tunnel is stalled. Even as the National Highway Authority has announced to throw open the tunnel by July end, sources fear that completion of the project may jump the deadline if the issue between the construction company and the minister is not resolved. |
