ET Report jammu, May 12: After establishing authority in selection of his teams, the State BJP president has started showing teeth to the all powerful Sangh Parivar and its functionaries in Jammu and Kashmir. Without any hitch, the BJP president is learnt to have started asserting before the RSS functionaries over the vital issues related to Government as well as organization in the State thus sending clear message to the Sangh Parivar that gone are the days of their supremacy in each and every decision. While the assertiveness of incumbent BJP president has infused a spirit among his team members, the style of functioning of new BJP chief has put the RSS functionaries in a fix, who were virtually holding a complete grip on the party affairs for the last more than three years, particularly since the appointment of previous BJP president, the organizing secretary (who is a RSS man), was calling shots. According to the sources in BJP, even as the Sangh Parivar had played major role in election of sitting party president, he has turned the tables within months of taking over. The situation can be gauged from the fact that a recent crucial meeting of the party core group and senior office bearers to discuss some important issues related to the coalition Government, had to be cancelled after the president refused to take part in the same. The meeting was called by the organizing secretary and he had reservations that he was not consulted before deciding the same, sources added. Earlier also, sources said, the new BJP president clearly conveyed on a number of occasions that he would take the decisions with regard to party affairs and the RSS should limit the role, assigned to it. As no other BJP State president has ever dared to challenge the interference of RSS in the party affairs, sources hint that the incumbent president has the blessings of high command behind his assertiveness. |
