Rape accused Khour PS SHO, SPO sent to 8-day police custody | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 12: Accused of raping a woman in police custody, then Akhnoor police station SHO Mohammad Iqbal Chagatta and SPO Mamta Kumari, who had allegedly acted as a facilitator to the crime, were today remanded to eight-day police custody by Akhnoor judicial magistrate Jeewan Kumar. While police sought their custody for 15 days, the judicial magistrate sent them to eight-day police custody up to May 20 next while observing that the offence was heinous in nature and its some aspects were required to be investigated. He also directed to produce the accused in the court on May 20. The victim had lodged a written complaint with SDPO, Akhnoor, alleging therein that she was raped by Chaggata about six months ago after she was recovered from the boy with whom she had eloped and married. According to the police case, the girl was kept inside Khour police station for two nights and SPO Mamta had allegedly facilitated the criminal act of the ex-SHO. On her complaint, a case under section 376 (2) of RPC was registered against the ex-SHO and under section 109 of RPC against Mamta. While the ex-SHO had been arrested, the Akhnoor SDPO had taken up further investigation in the case. (JNF) |
