Jammu, May 12: Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, Jammu, Ashok Kumar Koul today awarded two years imprisonment to a former incharge of GMCH police post in a corruption case which was registered against him by VOJ (vigilance organisation, Jammu) in 2009. A written complaint was lodged with VOJ against then GMCH PP incharge Dawarika Nath, son of Badri Nath of Kangrai, by one Ashwani Kumar on April 2, 2009. Ashwani was looking after the affairs of GMCH parking lot in 2009 when Dwarika was the PP head there. In his April 2009 complaint, he alleged that the PP incharge had forced him to pay him a bribe of Rs 2,500 in March for letting him run his business smoothly. He alleged that the police officer, who had also assaulted him inside the police post to extract bribe money from him, was now demanding Rs 3,000 every month. Taking a cognizance of the complaint, VOJ registered a case and handed over its investigation to Inspector Ashok Singh. A trap team was then constituted by VOJ SSP on April 2, 2009. The team later caught the PP incharge demanding and accepting the bribe money from the complainant. The judge, after hearing the two sides, said the court "believes that the crime committed by the accused is unpardonable". "So, while convicting him under section 5(1)(d) read with section 5(2) of P C Act and section 161 of RPC, he is sentenced to a simple imprisonment for two years," he ordered while imposing a fine of Rs 5,000 on the accused on each count.
