Union Home Ministry says 'no' to declaring Kashmiri Pandits 'Internally displaced'
Jobs cannot be given outside Valley!
1/24/2014 11:23:27 PM
Syed Junaid Hashmi JAMMU, Jan 24: Centre has refused to grant the status of 'Internally Displaced Persons' to Kashmiri Pandits despite being forcefully recommended by high powered Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs. Referring to National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Union Ministry of Home Affairs has acceded to classifying displaced Kashmiri Pandits as 'migrants' as has been ordered by the commission in its order dated 06-05-1996. The Ministry has said that the issue of redefining status of Kashmiri Pandits has already been settled by NHRC and there is no need to review the same. They have stated that since the violence has come down considerably and efforts are being made to settle Kashmiri Pandits back in Kashmir valley, redefining their status makes no sense. Home Ministry has quoted NHRC observation wherein it has been stated that there is no scope for objecting to term 'migrants' and the apprehension of the Union Government is not without any basis. Accordingly, NHRC recommended the Union Government to substitute the term 'migrants' by 'internally displa...

Complete connectivity, a distant dream; power connectivity, a dream
1/24/2014 11:23:16 PM
Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Jan 24: It seems that Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has lost his credibility and no one among the administration takes him seriously. Bureaucrats as well as senior officers in the administration mislead Omar as and when some meeting takes place. Same happened with the review meeting convened by Omar on January 23 (Thursday) a day after most areas of Kashmir valley received heavy snowfall. The officers present in the meeting presented a rosy picture to the Chief Minister saying that 'all is well' and people have been provided relief in the aftermath of snowfall. Today on the second day after the snowfall people living in majority of villages of South Kashmir are ...

1/24/2014 11:23:05 PM

"The post of Private Secretary to Chairman SERC and four posts of Junior Stenographers are laying vacant, Chairman and Members of the Commission are managing the work of these officials on their own", sources said, adding that there were 16 sanctioned posts of supporting staff out of which 7 posts were vacant. 16 yrs on, Wandhama victims await justice
1/24/2014 11:22:48 PM
Early Times Report Srinagar, Jan 24: Sixteen years on, the wandhama victims are still waiting for justice. With the police having failed to trace out the killers, the Wandhama massacre has been consigned to records. Yet another mysterious page has been added to Jammu Kashmir's beleaguered history. Justice remains a casualty. The 27th night of the Holy month of Ramadhan, Muslims believe, is better than thousands of nights. On this night people seek blessings from Almighty. But in 1998, the blessed night witnessed cold blooded massacre of scores of villagers in a small hamlet in Ganderbal. The inhuman act changed Kashmir for good. This blessed night fell on January 25 in 1998. In the entir...
