Jammu, Oct 3: Rainy season came and gone, festive season is on and about to go but no smooth end is still in sight for the potholed roads of the City of Temples. Amidst a growing public outcry on dug up road network, a major health hazard and grave security risk, the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today took a reality check walk across the town. Though the city tour mostly remained limited to the areas where roads have come up again but people have some sense of gratitude that the Chief Minister was literally on the road to see what Jammu has been thrown up by unplanned and mindless digging by agencies working counter-purpose to each other.

Jammu, Oct 3: The annual plans were the hilly districts of Ramban and Reasi were approved at Rs 46.64 Crore and Rs 46.13 Crore respectively at meeting of District Development Boards held here today. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chaired the meetings.
The District Plan of Rs. 46.13 crore for Reasi includes additionalities of Rs. 3.07 crore and Rs. 46.64 crore for Ramban included additionalities of Rs. 3.89 crore.

New Delhi, October 3: India has finally woken up to the Pakistani move to whip up the issue of Kashmir through the aegis of Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC).
The External Affairs Ministry spokesman, Vishnu Prakash, rejected here today an OIC statement and questioned the locus standi of the grouping of Islamic countries after the OIC in the wake of its meeting at New York earlier this week called for realisation of “legitimate rights of self-determination in accordance with the relevant UN resolution and aspirations of Kashmiri people”.

Bangalore/Hyderabad: Heavy rains and surging flood water continued to batter Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh claiming 194 lives and indundating vast swathes of land rendering nearly two million people homeless as authorities battled to reach food and shelter for them.
Resuce efforts were stepped up with troops backed by IAF helicopters shifting marooned people in both the states to safer areas.
While 161 people perished in the heavy rains that lashed 15 districts of Karnataka, 33 people were killed in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh whose five districts were hit by the flash flood affecting more than 18 lakh people.
