Jammu, Feb 1: Repaying the courtesy of 2002, the Congress-National Conference alliance has offered to support the Peoples Democratic Party for one seat of Rajya Sabha, for which elections will be held, if required, on February 13.
While National Conference President and former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah and Union Water Resources Minister Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz are all set to be elected to the Rajya Sabha, the Congress has staked claim on only one seat and the National Conference has been allowed to contest on two seats. There are four Rajya Sabha seats to be filled in from Jammu and Kashmir.
Contrary to expectations, the former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has not been cleared by the Congress to go to the Upper House of the Parliament. Azad was widely expected to take the RS route to return to the national politics. However, sources said that the Congress wants him back in New Delhi but in the Lok Sabha.

Jammu, Feb 1: The government is reported to have cleared the name of senior advocate Ishaq Qadri for appointment as Advocate General of Jammu and Kashmir.
A formal order to this effect is, however, yet to be issued. Sources said that the Government has approved Qadri’s name and an order may be issued on Monday.
Qadri’s appointment as Advocate General comes after resignation of the incumbent DC Sharma who was appointed as Advocate General by the Governor’s administration. Sharma resigned few days after installation of the popular government, paving way for appointment of new AG.

Islamabad, Feb 01: The Pakistan government has scuttled a move by some ruling and Opposition parliamentarians to introduce a resolution in the National Assembly asking US President Barack Obama to appoint an envoy on Kashmir.

In his letter to the President of India, Gopalaswami had leveled a volley of allegations against Election Commissioner Navin Chawla squarely indicting him for favouring the Congress in deciding timing of elections in various states. New Delhi, Feb. 1: The Supreme Court has ruled that a district collector or the land acquisition officers cannot ask for protection from prosecution under IPC Section 77.
A bench of Justices R V Raveendran and J M Panchal said that the immunity granted to judges under Section 77 IPC would not be extended to district collectors to seek immunity from the criminal cases.
The apex court rejected a Rajasthan High Court order that quashed the FIR registered against the Jaipur district collector in a land acquisition case.
