Calling the Abdullahs ‘non-serious’ has been the Muftis’ ace in a political chess game
3/30/2010 12:24:14 AM
AHMED ALI FAYYAZ JAMMU, Mar 29: It is now over a year since the state’s youngest Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, enjoyed skiing on the alpine slopes of Afarwat on the day of his reply to the discussion on Governor’s address in the Legislative Assembly. He appeared on the scheduled time of his turn, at 4.00 p.m dot and got a bonus of one full hour as few of the MLAs demanded more time to make their points. Inspite of being absent for noticeable durations and having listened to not more than five speakers, he began replying to the debate and was heard making one of the most impressive speeches of his 11-year-long political career. He was plush with his party’s victory at the hustings and the Muftis were in the thick of reconciling to PDP’s defeat. Just the men like Panthers Party’s Harsh Dev Singh noticed Omar’s absence and made a modestly reformative comment. As soon as PDP’s pain of the defeat receded, Muzaffar Hussain Baig did not lose a second to fire the salvo during the Budget session in Srinagar. It was indeed not an eloquent speech on the corruption tainted officials...

"I will inquire into this issue. CM's oft-told tale is nothing but illusion
3/29/2010 11:56:27 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 29: The oft-told tale of chief minister Omar Abdullah that his government does not discriminate against Jammu and Ladakh regions is nothing but an illusion. This is what the statistics of home department reveals. It shows how the government discriminated against Jammu and Ladakh regions while making recruitment in police department. The government has made a recruitment of 9,553 cops in the last two years. Of them, 5,171 were recruited from Kashmir, while only 4,114 youth donned police uniform in Jammu region. From Ladakh region, only 268 youth were recruited in police. Astonishingly, the maximum number of cops recruited by the Omar-led coalition ...

3/29/2010 11:55:58 PM

Since the commencement of the budget session it was for fourth time when the entire Opposition comprising Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) and Jammu State Morcha (JSM) jointly cornered the ruling dispensation, though on different issues. It was firebrand P...

Army "contradicts" Omar's statement
3/29/2010 11:55:18 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 29: Chief minister Omar Abdullah is probably going to land in trouble in the state legislative assembly, which is in session, as army today sought to "contradict" his announcement as regards the gradual withdrawal of 35,000 troops from the militancy-infested state. Omar had told the assembly last week that 35,000 troops were withdrawn, their camps closed and they were sent out of the state after NC-Congress coalition came to power. However, Brigadier General Staff (BGS), 16 Corps, Brig Gurdeep Singh told reporters in reply to a question in a press conference that army personnel were only relocated as per security demands and that there was no major pullout....

On the floor of House, CM plays games on his cell phone:Beig
3/29/2010 11:55:07 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 29: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Monday leveled serious allegations ranging from undermining the authority of the legislative assembly to discriminating against areas represented by PDP against the Chief Minister. A visibly perturbed former Finance Minister, Muzaffar Hussain Beig, briefed the media immediately after PDP MLAs walked out in protest over withdrawal of security of a PDP leader. "There is no fun participating in the proceedings of a house where the leader plays games on his cell phone instead of showing interest in the deliberations. The PDP, therefore, has decided to abstain from rest of the budget session", he said. "It is highly unfor...

NC MLA weeps inside Assembly
3/29/2010 11:54:52 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 29: A ruling National Conference MLA cried bitterly in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Monday alleging that his demands regarding his constituency were treated with indifference by the authorities and admitted failure in getting justice for the people he represents. Nazir Gurezi, who represents mountain-locked Gurez Assembly seat in the state Assembly, broke down while speaking about the hardships faced by the people of his constituency in the absence of road connectivity and other facilities. "Gurez does not have any road links. People there are living an isolated life from the rest of J&K," the NC legislator said while speaking on the grants of the P...

End discrimination to ensure unity and integrity of J&K
3/29/2010 11:54:41 PM
RUSTAM EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 29: The March 25 Assembly proceedings establish that the State of Jammu and Kashmir may not remain intact geographically and politically. Apart from contradictory stands of the Jammu-based and Kashmir-based legislators on issues like women's bill and inter-district recruitment, the issue of discrimination raised in the Assembly by the Jammu-based opposition parties, including the Panthers Party, the BJP and the JSM, and the counter arguments advanced by certain Kashmir-based legislators do indicate that the legislators are divided on regional lines and that they treading diametrically opposed paths. Even Speaker of the Assembly had to make a passi...
