New Delhi, July 6 : Seeking to address what he described as triple challenges, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee Monday presented a revival-oriented budget with more funds for welfare schemes and infrastructure, a promise to restore India's high economic growth and better delivery mechanisms to reach the fruits of development to the poorest.
Amid high hopes from industry and the average citizen alike, the budget also promised new incentives to farmers, a big hike in funds for projects with emphasis on rural reconstruction and employment, more allocation for urban development and a fresh impetus to energy security.
During his 100-minute budget speech in the Lok Sabha, Mukherjee promised a national food security act soon to give 25 kg of rice or wheat per month to the poor at a subsidised price of Rs.3 per kg while promising a 40-percent hike in the health insurance scheme for people below the poverty line.

Srinagar, July 6: To contain the traffic accidents and ensure smooth plying of vehicles on roads, an efficient traffic management system is being put in place for which the guidelines have been formulated by the government and the concerned departments have been asked to implement them in letter and spirit.

New Delhi, July 06: India's fiscal budget has risen from Rs.193 crores to over Rs.10 lakh crores in the 63 years since independence of the country in 1947, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said while presenting the budget for 2009-10 in the Lok Sabha Monday.
"Madam Speaker, I am happy to announce that for the first time, the budget estimates have crossed Rs.10 lakh crores. From Rs.193 crores in the first budget, the estimates for the current financial year are Rs.10 lakh, 20,838 crores," Mukherjee said.
Mukherjee had presented his previous budget as finance minister in the government of prime minister Indira Gandhi 25 years ago.

Srinagar, July 6: As many as 123 members of the divided families including 33 first-timers from this part of the Kashmir made it to the weekly Poonch-Rawlakote bus service to exchange sides from Chakan-Da-Bagh crossing point at Line of Control (LoC) on Monday.
Official sources said that 62 civilians left for Pakistan occupied Kashmir from Poonch. While 33 were first-timers from this part of the Kashmir, 29 were PaK returnees.
From PoK, 61 persons reached Poonch. They include 60 first timers from PoK and one returnee, who returned to Poonch after their 28 day stay in PoK.
