JAMMU, Sept 22: Jammu has always cried against the blatant discrimination in almost all spheres of life but the statistics and arithmetics always played truant with the cause as the political sloganeering alone could not get justice.
“Region has been discriminated against by the political elite of Kashmir”, this is the oft repeated exhortation in Jammu for several decades now. However, when it comes to figures the champions of the cause often fumble to disadvantage of the region.
Perhaps for the first time, an authentic data on the development parameters has come to the fore which clearly reflects the obvious bias in funding pattern. It has come from a political party, therefore the doubts of veracity are natural but behind the research is an academician who seems to have undertaken an arduous task in consulting the planning papers and reports.

JAMMU, Sept 22: The traders in Jammu and Kashmir, despite their repeated pleas on genuine account, are unlikely to get extension in deadline for filing the Income Tax returns which they are required to do before September 30.
Having lost more than two months to the agitation, the traders had appealed for extension in deadline. However, the Union Ministry of Finance is reported to have declined the request when matter was taken up with Finance Minister P Chidambram by Pradesh Congress Committee chief and Union Water Resources Minister Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz.

JAMMU, Sept 22: The fiercely fought gun battle on the Line of Control in Tarkundi area of Poonch sector ended today with killing of four militants. One militant and a solder were killed till last evening.
Four militants were today killed in a fierce gunbattle that erupted on Sunday on the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch, with security personnel foiling an attempt by ultras to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir. A jawan - Sepoy Chiba of One Assam Regiment-- had died yesterday in the gunfight.

NEW DELHI, Sept 22: In a major confidence-building measure (CBM) related to Jammu and Kashmir, India and Pakistan are expected to launch cross-LoC trade on Srinagar-Muzaffarabad and Poonch-Rawalkot routes next month.
Officials of the two countries on Monday finalised modalities for undertaking the commerce, including the list of items that would be traded.
A final decision on the issue, particularly the timing, will be taken when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh meets Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari in New York later this month.
