With the J&K Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) issuing notification for the reservation of wards for women, Scheduled Castes (SCs), and Scheduled Tribes (ST), the National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party, Apni Party and the Peoples Conference may lose hope of their prominent leaders contesting from their respective constituencies in Srinagar. Sources said the probable faces for Mayorship at SMC from the National Conference, Apni Party and the Peoples Conference may lose their stronghold constituencies to the reservations. The lawyer, Babar Qadri, who was a regular participant in TV news debates was shot dead on September 24, 2020 by two gunmen who came as clients to his Srinagar house. An order issued by Financial Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary of the Jal Shakti department Shaleen Kabra also directed that the embezzled amount be recovered from the employee, Nikhil Gandral, and remitted into the government treasury.
