JAMMU, Mar 11: Members of opposition Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) today staged walkout from State Legislative Assembly over the issue of non-electrification of several hamlets in remote areas of Jammu region. As the House began its proceedings this morning with the Question Hour, the Congress MLA Krishan Chander Bhagat was the first to take up a query on provision of electric facilities in villages located in far flung areas. Even as Bhagat was in the middle of his question, the JKNPP legislator Balwant Mankotia sought a supplementary over the issue. However, the Speaker did not entertain Mankotia's request and asked him to wait for the Power Minister's reply as the answer may address his query. But, Mankotia did not relent and pressed for the supplementary and in the meantime other JKNPP legislators including Harsh Dev Singh and Yashpal Kundal joined the protest of their colleague to support him. After much persuasion of the Speaker, the JKNPP MLAs agreed to listen to the Minister's reply. As soon as the Minister of State for Power Vikar Rasool got over with his reply, the JKNPP legislators created a ruckus in the House as they were not satisfied with his response. In protest against the Minister's reply, the JKNPP MLAs trooped into the Well of the House and started raising slogans. "Na Sarkar Ke Paas Bijli Hai, Na Sarkar Ke Paas Koi Jawab Hai (Government has no electricity, no satisfactory reply)," the JKNPP MLAs shouted. In the din, MLA Harsh Dev was heard saying that there are a lot of discrepancies in Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) due to which the actual benefits of the scheme are not reaching the rural masses particularly the population residing in remote areas. After a few moments of demonstration in the Well of the House, all the three JKNPP legislators walked out in protest. Meanwhile, BJP MLA Sham Choudhary also staged a walkout after his listed Query could not be entertained as the Question Hour got over just before his turn could come up. Tearing papers, the miffed BJP legislator walked out of the House in protest. |
