| Heerpora : A neglected village on Mughal Road | | | Javaid Naikoo Srinagar, Mar 11 : Even as successive governments boast of achievements in their respective regimes, a village Heerpora-Dachunof South Kashmir's Distrcit Shopian sans basic facilities. The village is adjacent to historic Mughal Road. The village comprises 450 households including Gujjar tribes of adjacent areas Krispathri and Sarbal could not send their children school for want of a bridge on River Rambi-aara and snow clearance which has not been undertaken till now. According to villagers, the flow in the river increase in the afternoon making it difficult to cross especially for children. The village also sans electricity. A 63 KV transformer which was recently given is inadequate which according to the villagers is inadequate. . Almost 61 households are registered with electricity department and are paying Rs 271 under BPL category per month as fee, while as rest of villagers are not deprived of 'BIJLI' and nobody asks them for registration because the PDD employees grab a huge amount of money from the unregistered households as fee without even giving a receipt after receiving fee. "Some times they say pay 300, some times 400, it is up to them and I have never received any receipt from them after paying fee as they don't give receipts to anyone in the village" said Bashir Ahmad Lone villager Villagers often use beds to carry ailing persons of the village to Hospital as there is not a public health centre in the village. According to villagers for the first time in 2012, this road was brought under MG, NREGA but the panchs used sub-standard material and spoiled it completely. People of the area love to keep cattle and many villagers also deal in animals. There is no veterinary unit in the village. Only primary school in the area was housed under two coniferous trees. The trees fell in 2012 storm and destroyed the building. According to Head teacher of the school, Muhammad Iqbal, he has many a times bought the issue to the notice of the Chief education officer and District forest officer Shopian without results. |
