| Banihal Hospital needs critical care | | Crucial facilities missing; medical, paramedical staff handicapped | | MOHD IRFAN Jammu, Mar 11 : While the Government claims to have improved the Health care facilities in the rural area of Jammu & Kashmir ,The Messy State of Health care in Sub-District Hospital Banihal shamefully belies the Government claims. The Sub-District Banihal is an excellent example of Government apathy. The 30 bedded Hospital along the Srinagar-Jammu High way does not have adequate number of specialists to cater to the Health care needs of hundreds of patients who visit it every day. The posts of paediatrician have been lying vacant for years together. Babies and Children have to suffer because they don't get proper treatment due to the absence of paediatrician. Several Machines & Equipments lie defunct due to the mismanagement on the part of authorities, besides the adequate paramedical and Nursing staff is also not available in the Hospital adding to the miseries of the patients. However the Irony is that Hospital lacks Vital facilities including Blood bank, Blood storage, C T Scan and CRM. The Non-availability of blood has led to the loss of precious lives over the year. People allege that for the last 30 years nothing has changed. The Hospital is just a referral unit. For minor issues patients are referred to Srinagar and Jammu. Hospital has also failed to provide any relief to the accident patients. Almost every day 2-3 accidents take place on the National High way. The seriously injured patients don't get immediate & proper treatment at the Hospital and succumb on their way to other hospitals. Director Health Services Madhu Khullar admitted that Banihal Hospital sans facilities, but reiterated that construction of Trauma Centre is going on. |
