| Arms Act violation: SK Armoury, Bakshi Gun House served notices | | | SUMIT SHARMA Jammu, Mar 11: Office of the District Magistrate (DM) Jammu served notices to the two arms dealers in Jammu directing them to furnish the sale and purchase statements of the last five consecutive years following alleged laxity of norms by the duo. However, these two arms dealers yet have failed to respond the notice and are continuing with their trade till date, official sources said. High placed sources within department informed that Additional District Magistrate, Jammu vide order no DMJ/Arms Section/280-81 dated 28/2/13 directed two arms and ammunition dealers namely M/S S.K Armory Barnai Road, Jammu and M/S Bakshi Gun House, Nai Basti Jammu to furnish the requisite statements to this office through special messenger directing strictly them to comply the order within 2 days positively. "The new notices were served to them against their non compliance of the direction given to them to furnish the sale and purchase statements for the year 2008,2009,2010,2011 and 2012 with 14 days time frame, sources said. If the sources in Revenue Authority are believed, the dealer or the officer in-charge of the police station or unit armory shall maintain such registers as may be prescribed by the Central Government. A copy of the entries in the registers relating to the quarters ending on the last day of March, June, September and December each year, certified as true copy under the signature of the dealer or officer-in-charge of the police station or unit armory, as the case may be, shall be forwarded to the District Magistrate as early as possible after the expiry of each quarter. The licensed dealer or the officer-in-charge of the police station or unit armoury or of any other place specified under rule 46(3)(a)(i) where the arms or ammunition are kept, shall submit report to the District Magistrate by the December 11, each year a report showing the particulars of arms or ammunition in their custody which have, or will become liable to forfeiture by the end of that year. Further, sources said, the Licenses of Sale/Keep and manufacture are renewed by the Home Department on the recommendations of concerned District Magistrate. Keeping in mind, the above said directions, one is amazed how the duo involved in arms act violations got their licenses renewed. Pertinent to mention here that arms dealers in Jammu and Kashmir have been in the news limelight in the past and in 2002 CBI started a probe in the sale of arms following alleged irregularities in the arms licenses, while one Mukhtiar Ahmad Choudhary, while serving as a sub-divisional magistrate in Mendhar of Poonch district, issued more than 4,000 licences and he was arrested from Dalpattian Mohalla in Jammu on April 13, 2011. |
