| Comprehensively defeated Dudha in his true colours | | Lesson for BJP to learn | | ET Plus Report JAMMU, Mar 11: The BJP MLAs on March 7 at the behest of or under pressure from pro-separatist forces voted for Shiban Krishen Dudha seeking election to the Legislative Council. (Dudha was comprehensively defeated. He could get only 9 votes. Even those who had proposed and seconded his name did not vote for him.) The BJP MLAs did it much to the surprise of their core constituency and supporters knowing it fully well that the credentials of Dudha were highly doubtful. The BJP leadership and think-tanks sought to justify their U-turn saying they wanted to vote for a "Kashmiri Hindu" so that the displaced Kashmiri Hindus get in the person of his their representative and they refused to accept the fact that Dudha is pro-separatist and pro-Geelani. Earlier, the BJP had decided to abstain from the election saying that they had no stakes in the LC elections. The BJP today stands thoroughly exposed. It should have first studied the Dudha's credentials before taking a U-turn, but it did otherwise and the result is that even the NC leadership, which is fundamentally separatist and communal, is ridiculing the BJP. As if all this was not enough, Dudha took no time to again identifying him with Kashmiri separatists and attacking New Delhi, thus further adding to the humiliation of the BJP. Dudha on Sunday said:"Since independence, the policies and approach of Union of India towards Kashmir smacks of imperialism, hollowness and insincerity…The growing trends and rising graph in new present alienation of people of Kashmir is directly proportional and due to continued delay in returning the mortal remains of Afzal Guru to his family and kin, which is a just demand under International laws…As a son of the soil, Afzal Guru belonged to Kashmir and like any Kashmiri his burial must be done in the soil to which he belongs…Fall out of these indifferences may be irreversible if shoddy and inhuman manner in which Afzal Guru's matter has been handled by State and Central Governments is not forthwith reversed by 'retrieving what is retrievable' even at this stage. Tomorrow may be too late". Whatever Dudha said in a written statement yesterday should vindicate those who had opposed his candidature saying he was a representative of Kashmiri separatists and not a representative of the Kashmiri Hindus. It should also make the BJP leadership sit up and bemoan its decision to support Dudha.
