| Embezzlement of funds in JAKFED rocks LC | | Chairman gives half an hour for debate | | ET Plus Report
JammU, Mar 11: The issue of embezzlement of funds in JAKFED rocked Legislative Council today. While agreeing with the concerns raised by the members cutting across party lines on the discrepancies in JAKFED, the Chairman Legislative Council Amrit Malhotra agreed to hold half an hour discussion over the issue. Earlier while raising the query on loss to JAKFED, Naresh Gupta said, "What steps have government has taken to recover 299 crores as losses incurred to JAKFED". Naresh pointed out that what action the government has taken against 79 employees as special audit has reported an outstanding of Rs. 1147 lacs against them. In the period of 1990 to 1995 fertilizers were sent on fake addresses in both Jammu and Kashmir. On the public outcry, government constituted two committees to look into the embezzlement in JAKFED. The committee headed by KB Pillai has confirmed to embezzlement. Government is not interested to recover the siphoned amount. As two committees constituted by government on functioning of JAKFED pointed out embezzlement in JAKFED, what action has government taken to recover those dues and action taken against the employees responsible for the scam? Naresh said "KB Pillai committee then ordered a special audit of JAKFED for the period 1994-2001.Then the adjustments were made. What is genuineness of those adjustments as the adjustments were made in 2011? What is the genuineness of those adjustments as the audits were done for the period 1994-2001? Who were those officers who destroyed this organization? Chairman acknowledged that is a serious matter and fixed half an hour to hold discussion on the matter. Minister for co-operatives Manohar Lal while replying said JAKFED is an Apex level institution registered under the Cooperative Society Act adding that two Committees constituted by the Government to inquire into misappropriation/embezzlements have submitted their reports in 2000. He said a special audit of JAKFED was ordered for the period 1996-2001. |
