JAMMU, Mar 19: Taking strong note of derogatory language used by NC Additional General Secretary Mustafa Kamaal, against party Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed PDP today decided to boycott the remaining period of ongoing Budget Session in the Legislative Council as well.
PDP also demanded privilege motion against Kamaal.
PDP has already boycotted the budget session in the Legislative Assembly. As soon as the proceedings for the day started in the Legislative Council today, PDP members Ashraf Mir, Asgar Ali and Yashpal Sharma stood on their seats in order to draw the attention of Chairman Legislative Council Amrit Malhotra towards a news item circulated in a local daily.
Ashraf Mir while referring to the interview of Kamaal to a local daily mentioned that PDP is following the dual policy of boycotting the proceedings in Legislative Assembly and attending the Legislative Council and terming of PDP Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed as 'evil genius'.
PDP members while refereeing to Kamaal said, "We will boycott the House today. How an outsider can speak about the House. He has used derogatory remarks against our leader Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. He should be called and asked to apologize for his comments".
On finding the Chairman is paying no heed to their request, agitating PDP members trooped to the well of the House, seeking direction from the chair in the matter. Though Chairman refused to entertain their demand and continued with question hour, amidst clamor PDP members staged boycott for the day from the House.
Later, while talking to reporters outside Legislative Council PDP member Asgar Ali along with other party colleagues informed that party will be boycotting the remaining budget session. On the stand of Party to attend Upper House Asgar Ali said, "Despite party's stand to boycott Assembly, the decision to attend Legislative Council was taken keeping in view larger interest of the State and oath taking ceremony of our new members". Referring to Kamaal's interview, Asgar said, "He raised derogatory remarks against Mufti and also raised question mark on our presence in Upper House. An outsider has no right to raise question against members of the Upper House. We urged Chairman that he should be called here and asked to apologize for his comments in order to maintain sanctity of the House".
"It appears that House has lost its relevance and it is the murder of the democracy. Authority of the House has been completely eroded. Now we have decided to boycott the session", he added.
Questioning Amrit Malhotra's authority, Asgar Ali said, "If someone lays allegations on you, now it has become apparent that you will not take any action against that also".
Castigating National Conference, Asgar Ali said, "in both Houses there is only one party rule. Democratic voices have been eroded. Party wanted to raise genuine voice of people especially discrimination with Jammu region and regional imbalances as per Finance Commission report".
