| It was only reaction to a situation….let's not stretch it too far: Cong | | Differences between NC, Congress reach 'new high' | |
ET Plus Report Jammu, Mar 19: Even as the friction between ruling allies National Conference and Congress on a host of sensitive matters have widened the bridges in the coalition, their differences only came to fore in open when the senior Congress leader and PHE minister Sham Lal Sharma reacted sharply to a situation that was witnessed in the House after independent MLA Abdul Rashid raised the matter of mortal remains of Afzal Guru in the House vehemently . The Congress minister and some other members of the party were prompted to react and say the party has the option of pulling out when some non Congress members in the treasury benches echoed similar views and indirectly supported to what Rashid raked up once again. While the Congress is offended the way NC members also conducted over the issue and even expressed its serious reservations in the House , the local leadership is trying to play it down and projecting the developments as reaction to a situation that emerged after ruckus erupted in the House. "Congress has only reacted to some objectionable and highly irresponsible remarks of some members in the in the Assembly…….it was a sort of counter reaction to what was witnessed in the House as the party cannot sit silent spectator to certain remarks which do not augur well for the sanctity of the House as also with respect to constitutional requirements ….", said JKPCC chief spokesperson and MLC Ravindner Sharma. While the Congress spokesperson defended to how party members reacted to a situation saying," it only came only because of the conduct of certain members who raised highly irresponsible and objectionable issues……the party has a right to react when such a situation arises ", trying to give a subtle turn in the same breath ,he said " the matter should not be stretched too far….let's wait < let's not go too far…", he added while trying to say that it should exactly not be deciphered that Congress will withdraw from the coalition in the state. However, sources within the party said today's developments in the Assembly have gone too far, right up to New Delhi and at the local level, Congress leadership has taken a serious note of what is happening inside the House as also with respect to conduct of ruling allies and members of NC as well as far as their unchanged stand on resolution for return of mortal remains of Afzal Guru are concerned. Congress leaders here , sources said have sought intervention of the High Command and want that it should take serious notice over the way developments are taking place inside the House too. Sources said after assertion of some NC members and others over the issue leading to ruckus in the House, even as the Law minister Mir Saifulla, sensing trouble tried to manage the things by his statement , in trying to say all is well with the coalition, the differences between NC and Congress have only reached a new high after what was witnessed today. |
