Sports reporter Jammu, Sept 14: Four sport climbers of J&K, Shashi Kant, Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Singh and Ashish Thakur today left for Delhi to attend climbers training course being conducted by Indian Mountaineering Found-ation (IMF) from September 15 to September 21. About 30 climbers from across the country shall be participating in this prestigious training programme. Shashi Kant and Abhishek Singh are the state champions in the men and boys category respectively while Akshay and Ashish are the runners-up in the same groups. "During the week-long training programme, to be conducted under the supervision of Chinese instructors, the participants shall be imparted training in the latest techniques of climbing in Lead, Speed and Bouldering on the international standard climbing walls in the IMF complex," informed general secretary of J&K Mountaineering Association, Ram Khajuria said. The purpose of the training programme is to improve the overall standard of Indian climbers. Earlier, all the four climbers called on the general secretary, who is also secretary of IMF North Zone Committee. Khajuria told the climbers that it was a rare opportunity for them to get training under international coaches and exhorted them to work hard during the training period to learn the finer points of the game. Prominent among others present on the occasion included Shawetica Khajuria, a national Judge in Sport Climbing and Sumit Khajuria, a senior mountaineer. |
