Jammu, Sept 14: A huge consignment of approximately 1900kgs of banned herbal plant 'Nagchatri' was seized by Excise sleuths at Toll Plaza Lakhanpur here today.
Based on tip off, sleuths from Department of Excise at Toll Post Lakhanpur during a checking of truck (JK03A-6966) recovered herbal plant which was illegally being smuggled outside J&K, official spokesperson said.
The searches were conducted under the supervision of Dy Excise Commissioner, Toll Post Lakhanpur, Dr Mushtaq Ahmed alongwith Excise & Taxation Officers.
Earlier driver of vehcile Liaqqut Ali S/o Sh. Raj Ali r/o Jandrah, Jammu had declared that "Apples" consignment before the Assessing Officer on duty, official said. However not satisfied with his reply the vehicle was put to physical check.
"During physical checking excise sleuths recovered 1900 kgs of banned costly Herb (Nag Chhatri) loaded in the vehicle. "The vehicle, alongwith loaded goods will be handed over to Commercial Taxes Department and Forest Department after compounding fine, spokepston added. |
