Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 14: Annoyed over the acute shortage of teachers/masters in government schools under Gundha panchyat in Khawas education zone, panchyat members locked three government schools on September11 under their jurisdiction and had warned that either the DDC come to spot for necessary directions or send teachers only then schools will be opened.
On the directions of Chief Education Officer (CEO) and DDC Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) Khawas today rushed to Gundha and had a marathon discussion with the prominent citizens and panchayat member headed by sarpanch Shanker Dass.
According to reports during his 5 hours long meeting ZEO tried his best to pacify the villagers and panchyat members citing excuse of shortage of teachers.
Ultimately under the pressure from the people ZEO called back three master grade teachers on spot who were transferred recently. Shanker Dass informed that two teachers reached today and one will join on Monday. "High school at Gundha will be opened on Saturday after the assurance by the ZEO that 4-5 more teachers will be sent to school during next few days" said Sarpanch.
He further added that ZEO couldn't visit middle and primary school today due to long discussion for high school Gundha.
These schools were also locked by the panchyat after complaints of acute shortage of teachers and some teachers had hired local youth to teach the students and paying them from their salaries in primary school.
ZEO on Saturday will visit primary and middle school and only after on spot discussion and announcement/decision to appoint more teachers , the decision to open these schools will be taken.
"In primary school at Bini two permanent teachers have been appointed to impart education to 60 students.
But they come to school only for closing and opening the monthly attendance registers and they have appointed a local youth to teach the students and paying him from their salaries" said sarpanch.
He further said that in middle school at Panjnara 2 teachers are looking after the affairs of all the classes.
One teacher is on leave for the last one month while another has stopped teaching students on the plea that he can either take classes or look after the affairs of the school management.
When contacted Director Education Sorav Bhagat said: "The matter has been brought to my notice. I am new appointee to this post and will take some time to be familiar with the affairs of the department.
CEO Rajouri will be instructed to take appropriate action in this matter.
