PDP preparing for something big
Shopian killings

Bashir Assad

Srinagar, Sept 14: Sources also said the PDP may even demand dismissal of the coalition government for the first time on the floor of the house for its failure to protect the lives of its subjects and also for misrule of the coalition government.
A senior PDP leader wishing anonymity told Early Times that last five years of Omar Abdullah's rule have been more testing for the people and it was likely that the party may demand resignation of the Chief Minister because he has failed on all fronts.
PDP leader said that ironically after 48 hours, the government is yet to keep its commitment neither has police identified the guilty nor has a formal order for enquiry been made. He further added though the inaction and incompetence of the present dispensation has rendered the enquiries and enquiry commissions meaningless as nobody has been booked and tried for his crime, however, in the instant case the government has even retreated from its commitment of holding an enquiry by a High Court Judge.
He said that on occasions it appears that Chief Minister has little control over the organs of the administrations more particularly on people directly related with law and order. "On January 31, 2009, Chief Minister promised stern action against policemen involved in the killing of a 6th class student Wamiq Farooq of Rainawari" the PDP leader said adding that in fact the policeman involved in Wamiq's killing was even identified but days later, in quite contrary to what chief minister had said, police implicated Wamiq as stone-pelter and registered a case against him (after his death) as 'professional stone-pelter who attempted to kill a policeman.
He said traversing and twisting justice is a norm in Kashmir, and it can never be achieved in presence of a government that is represented and run by insensitive and go-happy people.
The PDP leader said his party will agitate on the issue in and outside the assembly if the government fails to book the uniformed men involved in Shopian killings.
Meanwhile Shopian, Kulgam and Pulwama remained under curfew for the fourth consecutive day. "Tight curfew is in place in Shopian and there is a pin drop silence everywhere. But last night, on Friday evening there was a heavy shelling from the government forces when some people got involved in protest against the forces," said a local. He added, "Till yesterday curfew was in place at a few places around the town only but today curfew has been extended to some more places."
"Curfew is in place in Shopian town, Kulgam town, Pulwama town and Khudwini (in Kulgam). While as there is some relaxation in the other peripheral areas of these districts in south Kashmir." said a police spokesperson.
However, the locals in Shopian, Kulgam and Pulwama say that there is acute shortage of essential commodities, medicines and baby food, in these areas.
Shopian is under curfew from September 11, when a youth, Rafi Ahmad Rather, 28, a sumo driver was allegedly killed by CRPF at Gagren Camp. Pertinently, it was the same camp where four more were killed on September 7, allegedly by CRPF who were labeled as militants.
