Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 14 : Terming yesterday's action taken by Jammu University as undemocratic, Progressive Students Association (PSA) claimed that as they have been raising voice over genuine students' demands so such unjust action has been taken.
According to press release issued here today, state president of PSA Dhiraj said that the VC has been working together with goonda elements in an effort to silence the politically active students. "Same goonda elements had also harassed them during PSA campaigns against New Recruitment Policy and Fee Hike", he said.
Narrating about events of past few days, he said that on 10th Sept GBSWA started fast unto death for establishment of Gojri and Pahari Research Center, and PSA also supported the demand.
"On September 12, the third day of protest, the protesting students including PSA and GBSWA were violently attacked by a mob of goonda elements which are allegedly widely known to be close to the VC, and in front of DSW and Security in-charge of JU", he said.
"M.S Bhatti alone was badly beaten up by more than a dozen goondas besides female students were verbally abused. Many of the goondas were moving threateningly towards the women, and might have attempted some physical attack but PSA and GBSU activists stopped them", he further said.
He further aid that when they approached DSW and Security incharge, they refused to do anything. "The students filed a written complaint with DSW and VC but no action was taken. On the same night a PSA activists' roommate was threatened at University hostel by the same hooligans. He was told, "Stay away from PSA or we will kill you. Apne PSA walon ko bhi samjha de, idhar rehne nahin denge. Ek ek ko khatam kar denge!" he said.
On September 13, activists of PSA and GBSU were campaigning for their demand but the same group of hooligans, led by Kapil Shastri, who had attacked them on the previous day, approached them again.
"They got into an argument with the PSA and GBSU activists. During the argument they turned violent and the PSA and GBSU activists also retaliated", the press statement claimed. Immediately, the PSA activists, once again went with a complaint to the DSW's office but instead of entertaining their complaint the DSW summoned the police and had the PSA activists arrested. "False cases of Attempt to Murder (article 307) have been registered against several students including females. Out of these the police have arrested four students", he said.
The DSW, at the provocation of the VC deliberately framed the PSA and GBSWA activists. The administration has the utmost love for corrupt students' organisations that are affiliated with electoral parties because these organisations never raise the demands of students in a genuine way.
"PSA, GBSU and several independent democratically minded students have been working in an uncompromising manner to highlight and expose the corruption and nepotism that plagues the administration of JU", he said.
Dhiraj further ask, "Is it a crime for students to protest against fee-hikes and the privatisation of education? Is it a crime for students to demand accountability from the administration regarding appointments and use of funds? Of course not; it is the right of ever student to ask these questions and the duty of ever student to demand these answers." PSA tries to raise these issues.
He further sad, "The excessively punitive actions of the administration clearly prove that the VC and his chamchas in the administration are afraid that their true nature will be exposed." PSA is a democratic progressive organization and reiterated its commitment to fight for the rights of students. They demanded lifting of ban on PSA, revocation of illegal punishments on PSA, GBSU activists and common students. The complaint regarding the attack on PSA and GBSU activists on 12th of September be seriously investigated and the guilty be punished.
