SRINAGAR, Sept 19: The first meeting of State School Education Advisory Board (SSEAB) was held today under the Chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of State for Education Feroz Ahmad and Secretary School Education, Hirdesh Kumar. Other members who attended the meeting include Director School Education, Jammu Saurav Bhagat, State Project Director, SSA, S C Sawhney, Director School Education Kashmir, Mir Tariq, Advisor, School Education Mohammad Rafi, Director RMSA, H A Parray, Prof. and Head of Department of Educational Studies Jamia Islamia, New Delhi Dr. Farida Abdullah Khan, Principal Government Degree College Khour, Prof. Sharma, Ex-Secretary BOSE B A Dar, Additional secretary Education Mr. Inqualabi, Deputy Secretary BOSE S M Hanief.
Addressing the meeting, Deputy Chief Minister stressed upon Board members to work for upliftment of poor, downtrodden and differently abled children, besides providing them adequate educational facilities and other necessary facilities, so that the lower class of the society also receives the same facilities as those are available with children of upper class. He said Government of India has launched several significant schemes for children and there is dire need of proper implementation of these schemes, so that the benefit percolates down to deserving class. Referring to the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Draft Formulations on J&K School Education Amendment Act-2013, Deputy Chief Minister asked the members to invite suggestions and proposals from the experts and accordingly submit the report to Government for finalization of draft formulation. The Board discussed various other issues related to education of children and their right to education. These include revision of curricular scheme for Diploma in Elementary Education, creation of a separate service of teacher education, restructuring teacher cadres and review of recruitment norms thereof, formulation of State Education Policy, a vision document and establishment of State Council for Teacher Education.
