Martand Trust goes JKDT, SDS way; Opposes inclusion of Tirath in Bill

Early Times Report

JAMMU, Sept 19: After the J&K Dharmarth Trust, Sanatan Dharm Sabha and Sadhu Samaj some KP organizations have also voiced their concern over the Bill demanding that the shrines and temples managed by them should not be brought under the purview of the Bill.
Quick on the heels of opposition by JKDT, SDS and Sadhu Samaj, the Purohit Samaj of Martand Tirath Charitable Trust have also shown their concern and appealed the Selection Committee that the Martand Tirath managed by the Trust should not be brought under the Bill.
The office bearers of Martnad Tirath charitable Trust who met here under the leadership of its president M K Yogi while discussing the pros and cons of the Bill have appealed the Selection Committee which is presently examining the Kashmiri Hindu Shrines and Religious Places Bill not to include the Martand shrine in the bill.
With the objections raised by the Purohit Samaj of Martand regarding bringing the shrine under the Bill, the fresh controversy has dogged it and chances of its smooth passage in the coming Assembly session have become remote, sources said.
Some more KP organizations managing the Hindu shrines in Valley have decided to approach the Selection Committee to present their view point and demand that these shrines be not brought under the Board formed after the passage of shrines Bill, sources added.
Sources said these organizations have submitted their memoranda to Selection Committee also in this regard and urged it that while making its recommendations their view point be taken into consideration. While these bodies have made the task of government very difficult as in the event of the objections made by them the passage of the Bill will lead to legal wrangles as some of the organizations opposing the passage of the Bill have already decided to knock the doors of the honourable court for justice in case the Bill is passed by State Assembly.
However while justifying the Bill the majority of KPs who favour its early passage are of the view that the Government should apply the same analogy in passage of the Bill which it applied in the passage of the Act for formation of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) and Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) earlier.
When Government did not pay any attention towards the reservations of JKDT and other organizations including the Baridaran why should it take into consideration the opinion of these organizations at present as protection of Hindu shrines in Kashmir has become of paramount importance in view of threat faced by them, sources added.
The majority of KPs in general and Pandit Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust in particular have demanded that Bill be passed in the coming session as sentiments of KPs across the globe are attached to it.
