Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 19: In what can make ruling National Conference uncomfortable in coming days is the move initiated by some senior politicians of J&K which is being seen in direction of re emergence of Third Front, an alternative to regional parties on the political spectrum of the state ahead of Assembly elections which has started murmurs in power corridors.
While it initiated few days back with a joint statement of four senior leaders belonging to various political hues with regard to Shopian situation , the activities and developments at individual levels indicate there is more substance to it than what it appears to be on scene at present. Serious efforts have already begun to give a forma shape to the Front with measures afoot to take more leaders on board to make it broad based in a manner seen post 2002 Assembly elections and at the time of formation of the then coalition Government led by PDP and Congress. At that time as many as 13 MLAs led by Hakim Mohammad Yasin had come together on a common platform to extend support to the coalition Government.
Sources said that it is the joint statement by Yasin who now has his own party in the name of PDF, BSP state chief Sheikh Abdul Rehman, CPI leader and MLA MY Tarigami besides former legislator of the CPI Abdul Rehman Tukru and Abdul Rashid Kabuli who has had stint with a couple of national parties in the past and who has also floated his own party known as JKNDF suddenly appeared on the political scene last week by choosing to give statement loaded with criticism against NC led Government in not being able to handle the situation in Shopian. While it came as an affront to the coalition allies, NC in particular is viewing coming together of political stalwarts as something that may take the form of formal Third Front , which if materializes soon may disturb the political permutations and combinations in the state both in pre poll as well as post poll scenario.
Sources also said Hakim Yasin two days back called on ANC leader Muzaffar Shah, son of former Chief Minister GM Shah and a close relative of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at his residence , a move which is also being seen as one in the direction of formation of Third Front. The efforts, sources said are on to take more and more people on board so as to make it broad based and a formidable political force that can give tough time to ruling National Conference in particular, though PDP may also feel perturbed in course of time if it becomes a wide political alternative in the state ahead of elections next year. Sources said Yasin and Tarigami who have remained closely affiliated for some time, though on different parties, are trying to rope in more and more leaders for formation of Third Front. Sources also confirmed if their efforts click in right direction the Front may be announced in a time period of one month of so .
