Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 19: Jammu State Morcha in its meeting held yesterday under the chairmanship of its president, Prof Virender Gupta welcomed the stand taken by the Central as well as of State unit of Bhartiya Janta Party demanding union territory status for Ladakh region.
The Morcha sought explanation from the party for not supporting the demand of separate states for Kashmir Valley and Jammu region or trifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir state. "It (government) has to explain to the people of Jammu region and also those of Kashmir Valley for its double standards. BJP has to justify for making distinction between Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir," they said in a statement.
The Morcha president asked the BJP to give the reasons that motivated it to demand union territory status for Ladakh and the logic to reject the demand of a separate Jammu state.
"Is it Ladakh region alone which has been suffering discrimination at the hands of Kashmiri leadership? The agony and the plight of Jammu region is worse than Ladakh. Ladakh region has got some administrative and financial autonomy because of the formation of Hill Development Councils, the credit for which goes to the struggle launched by the people of that region and the Congress Government at the centre," Gupta said.
"But both BJP and Congress failed to even provide Autonomous Regional Council status to Jammu province, though both the parties always keep the issue in their election manifestoes. It is irony that BJP, the party which claims that it has been fighting for the cause of people of Jammu region failed to launch any agitation for the empowerment of the people of Jammu region to end the domination of Kashmiri leadership, after 1953 agitation of Praja Parshid," he added.
The Morcha president claimed that BJP even failed to honour the formula proposed by the founder president of Jan Sangh, Shyama Parshad Mukerjee in 1953 of keeping Jammu province out of the 'colonial rule' of Kashmiri leadership. "Both the Congress and BJP are against granting any constitution structure to the people of Jammu region that ensures the freedom of its people from Kashmiri tyranny. Both the parties fear that this shall amount to loosing Valley. But their fear has no sound ground. In this way both the parties are sacrificing the interests of more than half of the population of Jammu and Kashmir State and trying to crucify the dignity and honour of the people of Jammu region who always made tremendous sacrifices for the integrity and solidarity of the nation," he said.
Gupta alleged that BJP has done a great disservice to the people of Jammu region when smelling danger to the existence of its unit in Jammu and Kashmir State it forced the winding up then Jammu State Morcha that was constituted in 2002 to launch struggle for a separate Jammu State.
Among those present in the meeting included H B Khajuria, Nathu Ram Gupta, Chandra Udey Sharm, Divender Singh Jamwal, R C Gupta, Subash Chander Sharma, Madan Abrol,V D Dogra, Jatinder Saini and Rajinder Gupta.
